Speech Therapy Services:
Early Intervention (0-3 years):
This program focuses on developing your child's speech production, as well as receptive and expressive language skills, in a natural environment through play therapy. Play skills are very important and a natural precursor to your child's speech and language development. By providing therapy through play, children learn to strengthen skills related to socialization, engagment in cooperative activities, and expressive and receptive language skills. Additionally, it expands a child's imagination. We follow the principles of the early intervention therapy model as described by Child and Family Connections.
Articulation/Speech Sound Production:
Our program is designed to optimize you child's percentage of intelligibility by increasing your child's production of words and shaping their speech sounds so that they become more accurate. Children may omit, add, substitute or change speech sounds or entire speech patterns that can impact their overall speech intelligibility. We utilize a variety of programs as well as strategies and techniques to increase intelligibility and decrease frustration for children and their parents.
Language Therapy:
Language is composed of both expressive and receptive language skills. Language comprehension, or receptive language, involves the child's understanding of verbal language with and without linguistic cues. Therapy can focus on a variety of skills such as how a child follows directions, understands concepts, identifies age-appropriate vocabulary, and answers questions.
Language expression is the use of preverbal and verbal behaviors to communicate with others. In the area of expressive language, therapy can focus on the size of a child’s vocabulary, phrase/sentence length, use of pronouns, ability to ask questions, etc. More importantly, we can focus on how they use words that they have in their repertoire (i.e. requesting, protesting, commenting, labeling, etc.), how the child has his or her needs met and how he or she communicates with others. A detailed evaluation will determine the child's specific needs in these areas.
Family Training:
Family training is incorporated into each of our therapy sessions. It is perfect for all parents who are interested in learning proven techniques and strategies that can be utilized to stimulate their child’s speech, language and learning development. Most of these techniques can be easily implemented throughout daily routines and during playtime.
